Tooth Scaling
Scaling is the modified and advance form of the toothbrushing which removes hard substances from the surface of the tooth. Tooth brushes are not able to remove hard tarter from the tooth surface as it is firmly attached to the tooth surface. These hard substances cause further periodontal problems if it is not removed. This is very common and start up for many dental diseases so removing and cleaning the surface of the tooth helps to get rid of many dental problems.This procedure is painless and performed by the qualified dental Hygienist. There are various types of scalers used in dentistry according to requirement and condition of the gums.
Types
There are two types of scaling instruments that is used by the dentist or dental hygienist to remove the plaque or tarter from the tooth surface.
Hand scalers: These are a type of scalers that are used with the hand to remove the tarter from the tooth surface. As they are used with the hand and are under proper control of the dentist the chances of trauma is minimum. These scalers are of further three type modified according the morphology of the teeth. Scaler used for the anterior teeth till canine is called anterior sickle scaler. The scaler used for the posterior teeth is called posterior sickle scaler which is contoured according to the anatomy of the molars. Third one is universal scaler which can be used on both anterior and posterior teeth.
The hand scaling procedure is very effective and causing minimum trauma to the gum tissue. The only drawback of the procedure is time required for the treatment is too long.
Ultrasonic Scaler: This is the type of scaler that is used with electricity to remove the plaque or tarter from the tooth surface. This scaler has a vibrating tip which removes tarter by its vibrating force. Scaler is assembled with the water spray tip which keeps the scaler and tooth surface cool. This is the new and advance method of scaling and polishing the surface of the tooth. Chances of injury to the gum tissue is high as compare to the the hand scaling. Time required for the procedure is very short
Cause of plaque accumulation
There is regular accumulation of the plaque on the surface of the tooth which has to be removed with the oral aids is the plaque is not removed then it start colonize and become harder which then be not able not able to remove with the toothbrush. scaling and root planing is necessary to remove it and provide heathy environment to the oral cavity
Wrong technique of flossing result in the calculus and tarter formation.
Prevention
There are simple ways to prevent this problem to occur. After every meal we have to brush our teeth in the proper manner for 2-3 mins.Flossing is very important to prevent it. Move the dental floss in between the two teeth according to there contours.
Benefits of scaling
The dental scaling procedure appear very simple but this simple procedure can save you from very severe problems of the tooth. Healing and recovery time is very fast because the gum tis is rich in the blood supply.
Gums and teeth become heathy after scaling chances of any tooth problems are also reduced.
